Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band known for its blend of hard rock, heavy metal, and mysticism-infused lyrics, which often delve into science fiction, horror, and the occult. Formed in 1967 in Long Island, New York, the band originally consisted of guitarist and vocalist Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, keyboardist and guitarist Allen Lanier, drummer Albert Bouchard, and bassist Joe Bouchard, with Eric Bloom joining later as the lead vocalist and guitarist. Blue Öyster Cult gained a dedicated following with their early albums, including Blue Öyster Cult (1972) and Tyranny and Mutation (1973), establishing a reputation for their unique sound, intelligent lyrics, and dynamic stage presence.
